Honeymooning Memories

As I'm sure everyone knows, we finally went on our official honeymoon at the beginning of the month. We spent the day before packing and deep cleaning the apartment, which was an adventure even in of itself. Once Brysen was satisfied that I had correctly packed everything I would need and that we had gotten rid of all the food that would have gone bad we decided that we would go out and get some food because neither of us wanted to do any more dishes.

We watched t.v for a little bit, or at least I tried to. I was too excited to really focus on anything so Brysen ended up giving me an allergy pill so I could actually get some sleep. I woke up at 5:30 to shower and then my mom picked us up by 7 to take us to the airport. I'm a little ashamed to admit that I had never flown before and I was getting more and more nervous by the minute. Thankfully we didn't have a long wait and were soon on our way to Seattle, WA.

Once we got to Seattle we had a difficult time finding our way to our shuttle because that airport was laid out  oddly and our tickets had absolutely no information on them, but whatever. We finally found out where we supposed to go so I was okay. Then we had to wait for another hour until our shuttle bus came and picked us up. Then we were finally able to head to the ship, where we waited in more lines before we got to board. By this time all I wanted was to get rid of my luggage and eat something. I forgot all about that when we were walking onto the ship though; it was so big and pretty and I got to be lazy on it for an entire week!

Anyways, to make a very long story short, we spent the first official day at sea, which my body apparently did not like. I was very sea-sick which Brysen thought was rather amusing. I was okay when we were in the channels but being in the open water was not good for my stomach.

We went to Juneau first and spent about four hours just walking around and seeing all the sights. We went on a tour to see the Mendenhall Glacier, which was gorgeous. We took too many pictures and had too much fun. We got back to the ship tired, hungry and cold but thrilled. We went to one of the restaurants on the ship and made friends with this really neat couple from New York. We spent over two hours talking and telling stories before we finally decided to head out.

The next day of the cruise we went to Skagway, which was cool but not as exciting. We spent about four hours walking around again and went to a bunch of museums and saw a lot of neat things about the Gold Rush. Once again we had too much fun and were exhausted by the time we got back to the ship.

We spent an entire day at Glacier Bay, which was absolutely amazing, despite the cold. We got to see chunks of the glaciers fall off and to hear the glacier cracking. We also got to see a bald eagle land on top of one of the glaciers, which Brysen thought was pretty epic. We got to see a bunch of sea otters and a few sea lions as well when we were leaving the bay. We saw two Orca's as well, but not until the last full day of the cruise.

We spent another day in Ketchikan as well. We decided that we could walk wherever we wanted instead of paying for a tour bus. I'm glad we walked because we were able to see a lot of really neat things that the lazy people missed out on. We went and saw the totem poles and then saw the fish hatchery. The first part was incredible but the second part was a waste of money. We had already seen a bald eagle and we had seen the fish in the stream as we had walked up. Other than that it was a really fun day. We got to know a few of the locals, which was hilarious. We met an elderly man who let me hold his walking stick that had eagle, raven and owl feathers on it for good luck. I didn't get sick that day either so I guess it worked.

We spent another day in open waters and so I was popping Dramamine like it was candy. I still got sick though and I ended up going to bed early while Brysen went to another show. We ended up eating a lot that day too because bowling was expensive and the rock climbing wall was closed, which left eating and playing Yahtzee all day long.

We spent our last evening in Victoria, Canada, which was one of my favorites. We didn't dock until 6 pm so we got to see the city all lit up, which I preferred. We walked around some more, found our little souvenirs and took lots of pictures. We both decided that Canada wouldn't be a bad place to live, especially since their money is worth less than ours is now anyways. We got back on the ship about an hour before it was scheduled to leave and went to the chocolate buffet. EVERYTHING was made from chocolate and it was so dang good! We both ate too much and got upset stomachs afterwards but it was totally worth it. Brysen even brought up extra's so we could eat some for breakfast the next morning.

We ended up hot tubbing every day on the ship and going to a show of some sort. We saw a comedian, a magic comedian, a Second City performing group and Oh, What a Night! My favorites were the Oh, What a Night and the magical comedian; I loved all the songs performed and laughed so hard I cried. We walkad around the deck a lot too and just stared out at the water.

Sunday morning we were back in Seattle and my wonderful adventure was coming to a close. We hurried and packed, went down to the buffet to get as much breakfast as we could and then left the ship. I was more than a little sad to be leaving but oh well. We spent over 7 hours in the Seattle airport instead of going back into town and playing tourists. We were too poor by the end of the week because we had gotten ourselves at least one souvenir in each port. We played farkle and Yahtzee or I read while Brysen slept. By the end of the day we were glad to be home and to sleep in our own bed.

My honeymoon might have been late but it was worth the wait. We had such an incredible time together that I wouldn't trade it for anything. I'll be posting the pictures soon so everyone can see the awesomeness that we saw.

Magical Moments

Last Friday Brysen and I went on a date. And it was almost magical. He took up to this old but incredibly awesome restaurant called “The Greenery” at the Rainbow Gardens.

It all started when we walked into this little restaurant that was covered in small lights and real trees. We were seated at a cute little table and had half of the restaurant to ourselves. We heard a familiar song playing and were jamming out to it while we were waiting for our appetizers to arrive.

Our nachos were not the typical Chile’s nachos. These were your favorite homemade nachos covered in cheese with some awesome salsa to go with it. Then I looked over and noticed that the song we were listening to was not being played on a radio or a Juke Box. We had a real performer sitting against the wall, playing her piano and singing her heart out.

We started cheering for her to let her know that we appreciated her musical abilities. Apparently she liked our reaction because she came over to us and let us pick some of our favorite songs for her to play. We had some incredible food that tasted just like my mom’s homemade recipes while we laughed and talked. We sang along to the songs we knew and bobbed our heads to the ones we weren’t familiar with.

My favorite part of the night was when Brysen and I stood up to leave and all of a sudden we were dancing to a song. It was a lot of fun spinning and dipping around the tables. The performer started laughing and thanked us for enjoying life and knowing how to have fun.

Once we had paid for dinner we walked around through the rest of the store that looked almost like a museum. There was so much random stuff all over the place and it was super neat to look at. I could have walked through that area for hours just to look at all of that stuff. But alas, we had to head back to my Mother-in-Laws house to get our things and head back to our cute apartment.

I suppose to those who are reading this are thinking, “What makes this date so magical? It’s just another date.” To me it seemed like taking a step back into the past for some reason. Maybe it was a combination of the food and the atmosphere or maybe I’m just crazy. All in all it was probably my most favorite dinner date this whole summer.

In other news, the annual Adaptive Talent Show is over and I am now enjoying my very last week of camp. I'm ready to start teaching again and to go to school for myself. Oh, and for my cruise that's less than a month away!!!

Summer! :)

I love summer. Mostly because I get to watch cute movies and play silly games all day. And I get to go out on fun dates with my husband. This summer has been full of adventures for our little family, most of them a lot of fun.

We were able to be a part of Tia's wedding (mine was much better of course, it wasn't 100 degrees that day) and that was a lot of fun. I am so happy for her and her new husband Eric. Although I wasn't thrilled about standing around in the heat it was a fun day all around. Now I have other married people to hang out with too.

I took Holland to the Zoo to see Rocky Shores with my adaptive kids and we had a blast. Everyone else in the family was pretty jealous and I don't blame them. That exhibit is probably the coolest thing at the entire Zoo, just so ya know.

We spent the Fourth of July with both of our families; the morning was spent in Ogden and then the evening in Magna. Brysen walked the Plain City Parade with Holland and then we hung out around the house until about 1pm. Then it was off to a birthday party and then to Magna for a barbecue and fireworks.

All in all I still enjoyed being married to this crazy guy I married. I love him so much that I've even started cooking for him. According to him Hell is freezing over but that's his way of saying "wow, thanks babe." Our relationship is awesome like that.

In other news, We have officially booked our cruise! We leave on September 2 from Seattle, Washington. I have to admit, I'm rather excited. My goal is to lose all of the weight I've put on since the wedding. Nobody told me that when you get married your chances of getting fat increase. Good thing I like to eat healthy foods as well as crap food.

Brysen decided to try to cut his finger off at work a few weeks ago so we got to go to the doctors together. It was our first visit as a married couple. I have to say, it was rather uneventful unfortunately. I was hoping he would get stitches but he didn't even get glued. Life is so unfair sometimes.

B's work decided to do an Employee Appreciation Day last weekend, something I was extremely okay with. We got to go and see the new Batman movie FOR FREE! I happen to love Batman and I was thrilled when Brysen called me and told me we were going to go. I might have screamed a lot for a long time.

That's it for the Spencer Family for now. I'll post more when I have more pictures to show.

Spring Bliss

As mentioned in the last post, Easter was a blast! I went to Thanksgiving Point with the in-laws, celebrated Easter with them and then had a little mini Easter with Brysen. Here are the wonderful pictures of the Spencer Easter Shenanigans that were promised.

This past Saturday I went to the zoo with the in-laws and it was a blast! I still think that Brysen was just as excited as Holland was, if not more. He was the perfect uncle, catering to Holland’s every whim and making sure she got to see every animal in the zoo. It was rather adorable, not going to lie.

Later that night we went to the Drive-In to see The Avengers and John Carter. We went with our really close friends and had a blast! I was only conscious for the first half of the night but I did hear that we had to restart a friends’ car and that I might have whined about it being slightly chilly (which is not true). Unfortunately there were no pictures taken so you won’t be able to partake in the awesomeness that occurred but I’m sure you can imagine what happened when 8 adults get together and act like teenagers.

That’s all for now people. Hope you have a great life!

Another Month Gone

This past month has been quite busy for the Spencer’s and full of excitement (at least in my opinion, but everything is still new and exciting to me). We have done lots of stuff and nothing all at the same time.
T
o start things off over the past month, Brysen got not only one but two jobs! Hooray!! He is now a full-time Graphic Designer at the Sugarhouse Awning Company and a part time crew member at the Taco Bell just down the street. He seems to enjoy going to work and not spending his days lounging around on the sofa, even if it does mean getting up early with me. He seems to be enjoying both of his jobs, especially the Graphic Design. He’s still getting the hang of things but his co-workers are apparently really cool and he enjoys what he does.

This month we celebrated our first Easter together as a married couple. I got to go down to Thanksgiving point with my new in-laws and spend the day doing all sorts of fun, exciting Easter-ish activities. We had the traditional Easter Egg Hunt (where I might or might not have proceeded to knock small children over to help Kellan get some eggs), we played in the bounce houses, went on a small (yet fun) carriage ride and watched Holland and Kellan ride the horses.

We went home, dyed our Easter eggs and then the next morning had the family Easter Egg Hunt after church. I have to admit, the whole hunting for eggs idea didn’t thrill me because I didn’t want to walk around like an idiot in front of my new family-even though Brysen had told me I’d already done it hundreds of times before. Anyways, when I realized that we were having our hunt outside and that there was money involved, my outlook quickly changed. Granted it was $2 per egg but to a poor married person, that was a lot! We then enjoyed a fabulous Easter dinner, all courtesy of Ida and then spent the evening outside in the sunshine.

I started to work at the Rec Center again and I’m getting more and more excited for summer to start and for school to end. I’m starting to think that teaching a classroom full of 5th graders borders on cruel and unusual punishment when the sun is shining outside. Who really wants to be inside learning about summarizing and how to multiply lots of boring numbers together when you could be playing outside instead?

Anyways, sorry for such a long (and probably boring) post. I promise to post pictures soon so my blog will hopefully be a bit more exciting to read. Have a wonderful life!
